Moonlit Wolfsbane

I have compiled a list of the Werewolf books and movies that I have read and seen. I will tell you how I felt about the movie/book, in short so I dont ruin anything, and then you can decide whether or not you'd be interested in that item. I am going to rate them between 1 and 10. 1 being the worst, 10 being the best. I show no mercy!

Movie Reviews

American Werewolf In Paris (1997) +8
Sadly, the werewolves in this one looked like gorilla's mixed with panthers! They were computer made well, but Werewolves are related to dogs not monkey-cat half breeds!Still, its a very funny movie and highly original, even for a semi-rip-off of An American Werewolf in London.

An American Werewolf In London (1981) +7
This movie was hilarous and for being older, it had a good plot. Its alot more original than the paris remake and the wolf looks better too!

 Bad Moon (1996) +7
The Werewolf looked good, the plot was alright..Not to much to really say except its a typical werewolf scene with a family living in the woods and a predator on the loose. Family can be dangerous.

 Blood And Chocolate (2007) +5
First off, I could rip this movie a new one all the way to Christmas (probably 10 para's), but I won't. Putting aside its book affiliation, it was OK acting, scenery & directing wise. But if you missed even 2 minutes, you'd get lost. The plot bounced around pretty bad and left open endings. Now, compared to the book, this movie doesn't match. It's torn to pieces and from what I gather, the writers only wanted the book title and character names with a tiny bit of the plot; so they could twist it! It ticked me off to no end, and the ending was a far cry from the books ending. The book had NO happy-human-lovey ending! This movie was a total disapointment.. I for one am shocked that Annette Curtis Klause let the movie industry destroy her beautiful piece of literature.

 Cursed (2005) +8
Humorus. A good watch. Some parts are typical (Like killing the pretty-mean girls) but it doesnt ruin this movie. Its just a little hard to take the Dawsons Creek/Felicity star seriously as a werewolf.

- Dark Wolf (2003) +2
This is a sad excuse for a horror flick. Its perfect for the pervs that want a little lesbo thrill. The story is lame with a ditzy-blond only-a-werewolf because of blood, blah, blah, thing you see in every story. And the graphics for transformations was TERRIBLE. I was disgusted. It looked like it was done in MS paint. Oddly enough, some of the actors in this B movie could actually act. (Lame taboo- The man-wolf lost his clothes when he transformed but not his bandana. WTF is up with that?)

 Dog Soldiers (2002) +9
European movie, but very good! The plot is highly original and entertaining. Its mildly humarous And definately keeps you on the edge of your seat.

 Ginger Snaps (2000) +9,
I found this movie sickly humorous! Though the wolf costume left some to be desired. The bloodshed keeps the demented pleased.

 Ginger Snaps 2 - Unleashed (2004) +6
Though the werewolf was much better, the story was a complete dissapointment. Theres still sick humour, though mild. And a lot of unnecessary sexual content that doesn't go well with the story.

Ginger Snaps Back - The Beginning (2004) +10
Too awsome for normal words to describe. Definately has a great storyline, back in the 1800's and a plot thats better than the other 2 gingersnap movies combined! Ginger and Bridgett are still 2 sisters bent to be together forever. This is a thriller that deserves a 10+ rating!!

- Kibakichi (1991) +7
Entertaining but not for everyone. The dubbed version sucks to no end. The sound is terrible. The storyline isn't the easiest thing to follow and it doesnt have much wolfy-action, but it is in there. And it looks OK. Not the best thing out there but good if you want a taste of multiculterial wolf flavors.

- Kibakichi 2 (?) +5
It doesn't even live up to the first one, but you get a better feel for why things happen they way they do to Kibakichi. Not as many monsters and a bad guy that will make you think of Darth Maul and laugh 'cause he just looks and sounds terrible. (again with the crappy dubbing and sounds).

 Silver Bullet (1985) +6
A Stephen King novel made into a movie, But its pretty good considering how old the movie is. Though the werewolf looks like a bear and the plot is predictable, its still fun to watch. Not an edge of your seat thriller.

 Skinwalkers (2006) +6
Not the best thing I have seen. The plot was original in some aspects, but some parts leave you asking questions. Like how do they sleep if they are savage beasts all night, every night? And the wolves; omg can we say Wolfman '79? Terrible. The ending appeared to be quickly made and rushed as well. The whole movie border-lines B-movie. Why it was in theaters even for that short time, I will never know.

The Beast of Bray Road (2005) +5.1
This was a sad excuse for a 21st century made film. Poorly directed but some of which just made it more of a comedy to me than anything. Quite humorus for the demented but a poor and under-developed story line as well as poor budget and crappy effects. Still better than the Howling though.

 The Howling (1981) +5

The Howling - New Moon Rising (1995) +1
This one absolutely sucked. You only have werewolf activity for 5 of the 90 some minutes of the movie. Its all cowboy's and line dancing. ACK!

 Underworld (2003) +7
The plot leaves alot to be desired. To some its hard to follow, but the Lycans rocked! Boo vampires!

 Underworld Evolution (2006) +7

 Wilderness (1996) +2
This movie had absolutely no business being categorized as a horror film. It's a psychological analysis of a disturbed woman who turns into a wolf. I mean, really disturbed woman. Choppy story based around sex and the wild-need to prove that the main character isn't crazy but indeed a wolf. This was boring. Only makes you wary of shrinks.

 Wolf (1994) +7

Book Reviews

the Anita Blake Vampire Hunter series, *Laurell K. Hamilton (+10)
This series it absolutely breath taking. Action packed too. The first few novels are vampire dedicated but as you get into them there is more and more werewolf interaction. Totally and utterly original! Its a must read series and totally recommended!!!!!

 Bitten, *Kelly Armstrong (+9)
A truely different approach to the modern day werewolf! Something refreshing yet still the same speed as the Anita Blake novels. A book series about a butt-kicking, independent woman with a side order of wolf!

Blood And Chocolate, *Annette Curtis Klause (+8)
This should be everyones first werewolf novel! It was indeed mine!

 Moon Dance, *S.P. Somtow (+9)
I have never encountered anything more sinister and far out like this book! Holy cow, its freaking awsome!

 New Moon, *Stephenie Meyer (+9)
This book is the sequal to Twilight, so they need to be read in order. Its a vampire based series with werewolf activity becomming more apparent as the story progresses. But this story is highly original and entertaining. It keeps you on the edge of your seat and craving more. I even cried reading it! Very emotionally involved. Wonderful!

the Rachel Morgan series, *Kim Harrison (+9)
Beginning with the book Dead Witch Walking, the main character (Rachel Morgan) is introduced in a series of spell-binding tales in the world of the supernatural; from vampires to fairies and werewolves! A great spin on folklore that creates a whole new world to envelope the reader! A Must read series!

Shadow on the Moon, *Connie Flynn (+9)
My very second werewolf read. A greater edge of a typical werewolf story point of view. And romantic nonetheless.

The Werewolf Book: The encyclopdeia to shape-shifting beings, *Brad Steiger (+8)
not exactly a study guide devoted to lycanthropy, but it has alot on the subject and alot of information about other shapeshifting beings/murderers/cannibalistic people and horror movie references. Pretty good and recomended for any werewolf loving individual.
